Il Cavalluccio Azzurro, Unisex T-shirt Special Edition

«Dottò, scusate, ma che è successo?» ("Doctor, excuse me, but what's happened?") If that line makes you smile, you already know what we're talking about. It's the scene from Così parlò Bellavista (1984), Luciano De Crescenzo's film: in Piazza Mercato, Salvatore (Riccardo Pazzaglia) tells an ever-growing crowd how he foiled a bag-snatching without even meaning to, a handkerchief in one hand and, in the other, a little red plastic toy horse he'd just bought for his nephew. In the book it was a ball; in the film it became a toy horse, and ever since, that toy horse has been Naples: the city that turns everything into theatre, that stops to listen, that turns any old happening into a story worth telling.

Then came the fourth scudetto, and we wondered what that crowd in Piazza Mercato would have done on the night of the celebrations. The answer: they'd have painted the toy horse light blue. This Special Edition is Bellavista's toy horse in scudetto colours: the same tribute to De Crescenzo, now wearing the colour of the city that won.

When De Crescenzo passed away, in July 2019, Naples said goodbye by putting a red toy horse on display in Piazza Mercato, right where that scene was filmed. This t-shirt is our way of keeping him close: a tribute to a film that explained us to ourselves, and to a man who told Naples' story with more affection than anyone else. And we're proud to say: one of these t-shirts made its way into De Crescenzo's own hands.
