The horse may well be noble, but can it compare to ’o ciuccio (the donkey)? The donkey bites into the number 100 with an ace of clubs behind it: that's how Naples answers bad luck. Logo on the chest, big print on the back.
The horse may well be noble. But can it compare to ’o ciuccio (the donkey)?
Once upon a time there was a horse. Handsome, elegant, proud. The perfect symbol for a team that wanted to conquer the world. Shame that, at a certain point, the results suggested it might be time to change animal.
And so along came: ’o ciuccio!
Less aristocratic, decidedly more stubborn, but above all Neapolitan to the core. A symbol that was almost born to take the mickey out of us, which we, as only Naples knows how, turned into a badge of pride.
Then, after almost a hundred years, someone had the brilliant idea of dusting off the horse again.
Whatever possessed them?!
We're not superstitious, let's be clear. But given how things have been going, a doubt crept in: could this horse be bad luck?! 🐴
Just to be safe, we at Tattà® decided to put our trust in tradition. We brought back our beloved donkey, had him bite into the number 100, and gave him an ace of clubs behind his back. Because when superstition comes knocking, in Naples you don't answer with a horseshoe. You answer with an asso ’e mazze (ace of clubs)!
And so ASSO ’E MAZZE was born, a street-style graphic celebrating a hundred years of history, belonging, irony, and that wonderful Neapolitan ability to laugh even when there'd be reason to cry.
You can keep the horse. Just give us ’o ciuccio!
Tattà® – Naples is worn. Even for good luck.
