“Figlio Velato” (Veiled Son), Church of San Severo
However, Jago's work, with its gaze turned to the present, imprints the harsh reality of our times onto the stone, forcing viewers to confront images we often choose to ignore. "Figlio Velato" compels us to look bravely at the face of contemporary reality and its innocent victims. Jago is a talented Italian artist, sculptor and video artist, born in Frosinone in 1987, who, after working between Rome and Verona, moved to New York. His art is rooted in the artistic techniques of the past, yet it surprisingly adapts to the modern era, using video and social media to share his creative process and build a direct connection with his audience. Thanks to this gift for communication, Jago has earned the nickname "the social artist". The work returns home, after a demanding year-long process between New York and Long Island, to be exhibited in the city where it was conceived and to enrich the artistic heritage of the Sanità district in a completely new way. This exciting project was curated by Luca Iavarone, in collaboration with Coop4Art and the Arciconfraternita dei Bianchi di S. Antonio di Padova in S. Severo Massimo.
For anyone interested, the work will be hosted in the evocative Cappella dei Bianchi (Chapel of the Bianchi), located in the renowned Church of San Severo fuori le mura, at Piazzetta San Severo a Capodimonte 81, Naples. Visiting hours are every day from 10:00 to 13:00. Tickets can be purchased for €8 full price, reduced to €6 for under-18s, over-65s, students and holders of Catacombs of Naples tickets.
